Curriculum

Course content

Our curriculum at key stage 3 is split into three areas:

  • Fundamental skills.
  • Tactics, strategies and rules.
  • Healthy participation over a wide variety of team and individual sporting activities.

In Year 7 we focus on developing the fundamental skills in a wide range of sporting activities. In Year 8 we master those fundamental skills through modifying games and introducing rules. Finally, in Year 9 we focus on strategies, rules and tactics and applying the skills competitively and the importance of decision making to outwit an opponent.

Throughout each activity we will link the importance of PE and how it can have a positive effect on healthy participation. We want our students to enjoy PE and hopefully find lifelong participation in at least one area/activity. We will teach students through key words, discussions, skills and games and how each sport will have positive affect on their physical, emotional and social wellbeing.

Team sports will allow for team work, communication, organisation. Individual sports will allow students to develop their independence, resilience and creativity. All sports will develop physical skills including muscular endurance and strength, cardiovascular endurance, balance, and speed.
