Overview
Introduction
In key stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9) English at Westfield School, students learn about the ways words work through the study of a range of fiction and non-fiction texts. They learn to express themselves through language, and become equipped with the skills required to successfully engage both in the curriculum and in society.

Course content
Students learn about the big ideas in literature and how to think analytically about the texts they read. By reading a range of academic and diverse texts, they develop a confident, critical, and considered voice. Students learn to think carefully about the ways words work, and become creative and courageous writers.
