Good afternoon,
I hope that you and your families are well. We have enjoyed another very busy week at Westfield, with so many positives to report. It has been a week in which our commitment to create memorable experiences for our students has really been in evidence!
CLEGG SHIELD VICTORY
Huge congratulations to our fantastic Year 11 boys football team who won the prestigious Clegg Shield trophy on Tuesday evening, defeating Bradfield School 6 – 2 in the final. The team were made to work hard and showed real character to overcome the disappointment of conceding two goals just before half time. They then dominated a second half in which they scored four great goals! Well done to everyone in the squad who contributed to the victory and thank you to Mr Francis and Mr Thompson for their leadership of the team. Thanks also to the many family members who offered great support.
DUKE OF EDINBURGH EXPEDITION
What a delight it was to welcome students at the school gate this morning and to see so many Year 9 students kitted out ready for their practice Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition this weekend. We are very proud to be able to offer our students the opportunity to engage in such a brilliant programme to support their personal development. Thank you to Mr Lucas for preparing the students so thoroughly for the weekend ahead. Good luck on the expedition Year 9!
YEAR 8 NATIONAL VIDEO GAME MUSEUM TRIP
A group of Year 8 students enjoyed an exciting trip to the National Video Game Museum in Sheffield today as part of their computing curriculum. They were able to use software to design their own computer game characters and came back very much enthused by the experience. It is a privilege to have such and interesting and exciting museum on our doorstep, and we are glad our Year 8s enjoyed such an exciting and inspiring day!
YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE
Our Year 10 students are now on the fourth day of their two-week long work experience placements. We have already received encouraging feedback from many employers, and we know from past years that this experience can really support students to mature and refine their career ambitions for the future. We look forward to welcoming our Year 10 students back to school in a week’s time and building on their experiences as we prepare them for mock exams at the end of June.
YEAR 11 REVISION SUPPORT
Mr Lambourne will hold a Year 11 assembly on Monday and follow this up with a communication home to finalise details for how we will support students during the exam period which begins next week. This will include details of revision opportunities in school, including a revised period 6 schedule, and of when the option of study leave will begin. Please could parents/carers of students in Year 11 carefully check this message when they receive it on Monday.
With many thanks for your ongoing excellent support.
