As the video explains, being a governor has many benefits:

  • You make a difference to your local community and give something back.
  • You get to use and further develop your existing professional skills with an organisation that really benefits from them.
  • You could gain valuable experience for your own development.

What are we looking for in our governors?

Above all else, we want people with enthusiasm and commitment, who want to improve education for our young people. You don't have to have specific experience of working in education, but you must feel able to ask questions about our work, to help hold us to account.

We are always looking for potential governors with expertise in any of the following areas:

  • finance
  • HR
  • property management
  • facilities management
  • governance
  • management
  • law
  • education
  • marketing
  • contract management.

how much time does it take up?

There is one meeting of the full governing body every term, which you are expected to attend. There may be additional meetings where matters are discussed in more depth, which would also be useful to attend.

You will be sent papers in advance and be expected to read them before the meetings. You will  have access to training courses which you can choose to attend. It would also be appreciated if you could sometimes attend school events or visit the school to find out more about how it works.
